The Class 5 middle child of Chevrolet's medium-duty trio, the 5500 HD slots between the 4500 HD and 6500 HD with a GVWR up to about 19,500 lb. Like its siblings it launched for 2019 powered by the 6.6L Duramax L5D V8 (350 hp and 700 lb-ft) mated to an Allison automatic, reviving the conventional medium-duty Chevy line that vanished when the Kodiak/TopKick died in 2009.
