Launched commercially on September 28, 2023 after production started that July in Coolidge, Arizona, the Tre FCEV was a hydrogen fuel-cell Class 8 truck offering up to 500 miles of range with refueling in about 20 minutes, among the longest ranges of any commercially available zero-tailpipe-emission Class 8 truck and drawing 223 non-binding orders from names like J.B. Hunt & AJR Trucking. Its run was short-lived: Nikola recalled 95 of the hydrogen trucks over mounting bolts that could puncture the fuel tanks, then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2025.
