Caterpillar CT660

Caterpillar's set-back-axle vocational truck.

Unveiled just ahead of CONEXPO at a March 2011 event in Las Vegas, the Class 8 CT660 was Caterpillar's first complete on-highway truck, ending decades in which Cat acted only as a truck-engine supplier, and it was sold exclusively through Cat's heavy-equipment dealer network rather than truck dealerships. Built for Caterpillar by partner Navistar at its Garland, Texas plant and powered by Cat-branded CT11 and CT13 engines (derived from Navistar MaxxForce diesels), it had a set-back steer axle and lasted only about five years before Cat axed its entire vocational truck line in 2016.
